Is there a way to rewite /default.aspx

I'm running a ruby mongrel webserver (kind of a rails app) and I'd like to proxy the data through IIS.
My First rule is:

RewriteRule ^/(.*)$  http://localhost:7000/$1 [NC,P]

and it works ok... but...
I can't get it to rewrite for default.aspx.

Everytime i hit a root url path it tries to resolve to default.aspx (no good).
What i would like is for everytime it sees a / or a /default.aspx it rewrites the path as /index.

I tried:

RewriteRule ^(.*)/default.aspx           /index [NC,P]

but that does not work.

Any Ideas?

You need to set your default document in IIS.  If you are using IIS 6, go to the properties of your site and then the Documents tab.  If you are using IIS 7 you can probably disabled the Default document by clicking on your site, and then double clicking the Default Document icon under the IIS heading will allow you to edit this.
